The series and the book are cast as an adventure story, or the biography of English as if it were a living being, covering the history of the language from its modest beginnings around 500 AD as a minor Germanic dialect to its rise as a truly established global language.

In this episode, we discover the struggle to bring the Bible into the common tongue so that everyone could read it for themselves. It wasn't easy -- some who executed for doing what would be the King's command just a few years later! This is the story of how the English language shaped the Bible, and how the Bible in turn changed the language.
